Spatial Works

Färgfabriken’s degree exhibition Spatial Works examines differential aspects of installation-art and introduces a new critical and more subtle language to evaluate this work. Featuring work by four internationally acclaimed artists, the exhibition suggests a superseding language regarding spatial works as it identifies their differences.

Contemporary language, with occasional references to the art’s formal characteristics, is insufficient to communicate this artistic style. `Installation´ is a mere blurred description of spatial relationships. The current critical language used to analyze so-called installation art is general enough to be appropriated to any work in any space and have therefore lost their usefulness.

Attempting to discover a new critical language to describe this kind of work, the exhibition gathers artists whose work represents a great variety. Appropriating a terminology of Permutations, Thespian, Temporal and Psychodramatic, the exhibition exemplifies a new critical language for appraising spatiality.

The exhibition, curated by Theodor Ringborg, is a part of his M.A. degree project in Konstfack’s critical writing and curatorial program WIRE.

The exhibition takes place at Färgfabriken, Stockholm, May 22 – August 16, 2009.
Participating artists are Jason Dodge, Olafur Eliasson, Alicja Kwade and Tris Vonna-Michell.
Opening on May 22, 16.00–01.00.
