My degree project is about product semiotics: how and what products communicate with the user. Can you communicate how the product is to be used with the aid of its form?
During my preliminary studies I examined products in the public realm – things that will be self-explanatory for a large and varied target group. I later decided on the card terminals that are to be found in every single shop and encounter thousands of users every day.
Modern card terminals are lacking in expression, and they seldom manage without a specially provided sheet explaining how they are to be used. With semiotics as a starting point I examine the possibility of making a card terminal that can be used more intuitively.
